This 19-year-old woman felt self-conscious while smiling as her upper lip would rise to the point of showing more of her gums causing her to avoid big smiles, or cover her mouth when smiling, taking away from the joy of the moment.
This condition is known as a Gummy Smile (or excessive gingival display) and is most commonly caused by hyperactive upper lip muscles excessively elevating the lip. A thin upper lip may further contribute to the problem by exposing the upper gum even more; however, this was not the case for her as you can see in the Before photos.
Fortunately, this was able to be corrected using Dysport® which is a neuromodulator that acts to prevent contraction of muscles. The most common use for neuromodulators are for wrinkle reduction, but they have many other beneficial uses including for gummy smile correction, migraines, jaw clenching, and even excessive sweating.
She is super happy and feels more confident when smiling!
